Susana Balbo Wines introduces its fully renovated restaurant Osadia de Crear

Osadía de Crear, the initial gastronomic endeavor of Susana Balbo Wines, has unveiled its new space. After undergoing a complete renovation, the restaurant was inaugurated with an exclusive event for tourist agencies last Saturday, February 11th. The winery also introduced its new gastronomic offering, which was developed in consultation with the renown Chef Hernán Gipponi starting in late 2016.

Working mothers everywhere are all too familiar with the difficulties of balancing professional life with family life. Mothers in the wine industry face their own particular challenges, such as grape harvests that refuse to observe children’s bedtimes and frequent travel for sales trips. For Susana Balbo, who founded Argentina’s Dominio del Plata in Mendoza, the trying years of winemaking-plus-childrearing has paid off with what they say is the ultimate gift: her children have joined the family business. In honor of Mother’s Day, which falls on May 10 this year, we spoke with Susana and her two children, Ana and José, about their experiences.

Saint Louis Cellars Wine Store celebrated Women Making History Month last night at their Women in Wine class where world-renowned female winemaker Susana Balbo Skyped into the class to chat and answer questions to a sold out crowd. This class highlighted and celebrated over a dozen female winemakers. Last week’s column touched on the continued success of malbec in the world wine markets and offered a bit of a challenge concerning pricing. Despite its growing popularity with American consumers, this Argentinean import faces some of the same obstacles that derailed the meteoric rise of Australian shiraz back in the ’90s. As consumer demand for shiraz rose, so did the efforts of cheap bulk producers rushing in to fill the void.
