Wine critic Patricio Tapia published his Descorchados 2020 wine guide and Susana Balbo Wines portfolio stood out in various categories. We received the title of “Best from Los Chacayes” with 2016 Nosotros Single Vineyard Nómade Malbec, “Best Rosé by Descorchados” with 2019 Susana Balbo Signature Rosé and “Best Torrontés by Descorchados” with 2019 Susana Balbo Signature Barrel Fermented Torrontés. These awards, especially for whites and rosés, are our motivation to continue pursuing the vision of Susana, a pioneer of the white and rosé revolution in Argentina.
The 2016 vintage of Susana Balbo Wines’ icon, Nosotros Single Vineyard Nómade Malbec, was awarded 97 points and, in addition to obtaining the first place on the podium in the “Best from Los Chacayes” ranking, it made it to two other rankings: “Best Reds” and “Best Malbecs”. The limited edition blends in the Nosotros range also proved they can really glow: 2015 Nosotros Francis and 2015 Nosotros Sofita obtained 95 points each.
One of the highlights in the Susana Balbo Signature range was the 2016 Limited Edition La Delfina Paraje Altamira Malbec, which was in the “Best from Altamira” ranking, with 96 points. The other reds were close behind it, with 95 points each: 2017 Brioso (“Best from Agrelo” ranking), 2017 Malbec and 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon (“Best Cabernet Sauvignons” ranking). The whites and the rosé in this range stood out as well: 2019 Susana Balbo Signature Barrel Fermented Torrontés received 95 points and won the “Best Descorchados Torrontés” award, and both 2018 Susana Balbo Signature White Blend, which was in the “Best Whites” ranking, as well as 2019 Susana Balbo Signature Rosé, which was chosen “Best Rosé by Descorchados”, obtained 94 points each.
The viticulturist wines BenMarco, including the limited edition wines Sin Límites, also collected excellent accolades. 2018 BenMarco Sin Límites Malbec Gualtallary obtained 95 points. Patricio Tapia awarded 94 points to 2019 BenMarco Sin Límites Gualtallary Chardonnay, 2018 BenMarco Sin Límites Pedernal Malbec (“Best from Pedernal” ranking), 2018 BenMarco Malbec and 2018 BenMarco Cabernet Sauvignon, which was in two rankings: “Best Cabernet Sauvignons” and “Best from Los Árbones”.
The range of young, fresh wines, Crios, presented its renewed label showing its quality and consistency, and obtained high scores that prove it. The renowned 2019 Crios Torrontés draw attention to itself with 91 points and was followed by 2018 Crios Malbec, 2018 Crios Cabernet Sauvignon and 2018 Crios Red Blend, with 90 points each.
