Wine journalist James Suckling published the results of his recent tasting that included Argentine wines. For the first time in many years, and unable to travel, the wine critic did not publish an annual report on Argentina, but instead he has been regularly publishing the results of his tastings which usually include wines from different wine regions. In recent days, Suckling posted the accolades for 21 wines from Susana Balbo’s winery, which received more than 90 points, and the crown went to the nomadic Malbec: Nosotros.
Nosotros Single Vineyard Nómade once again stands out with 99 points, now for the 2017 vintage. This wine is named bears “Single Vineyard Nómade” because it is a roaming Malbec: every year Susana and her team taste that vintage's best Malbecs, to select the one that shows the best expression of Malbec and bottle small lots.
The first vintage of this collector's Malbec to obtain 99 points by James Suckling was the 2013 vintage, which was made with grapes from Gualtallary, Valle de Uco. After that, two other vintages reached the 99-point milestone: vintage 2016 from Los Chacayes, Valle de Uco, in 2020, and vintage 2017 from Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo, in March 2021.
James Suckling tasted some of Susana Balbo's wines via a virtual call with Susana and her team, and he tasted some other wines on his own. Among them was Nosotros Single Vineyard Nómade Malbec 2018, from Gualtallary, which obtained 97 points. This wine is not yet available and after resting for a few more months in the bottle, it will be released on the market.
The red wines from the Susana Balbo Signature line also stood out with amazing scores. Susana Balbo Signature Limited Edition Paraje Altamira 2018 obtained 96 points and the renowned blend Susana Balbo Signature Brioso 2019, 95 points. Furthermore, the 2019 Malbec and 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon were awarded 94 points. On the other hand, the star of white wines, Susana Balbo Signature White Blend 2020 obtained 93 points.
The 2020 vintage of Crios wines, the winery's young wine range, with outstanding price-quality relation, was also praised by James Suckling. Crios Malbec and Crios Red Blend earned 92 points, and Crios Torrontés and Crios Cabernet Sauvignon, 91 points.
BenMarco wines also garnered high scores by the Hong Kong-based American critic. BenMarco Expresivo 2019, the blend in the range of wines led by viticulturist Edgardo del Pópolo, stood out with 94 points. BenMarco Malbec 2019 obtained 93 points, and the limited edition white wine, BenMarco Sin límites Chardonnay 2020, was also awarded 93 points.
