In the 2021 edition, the Descorchados wine guide published excellent scores for all of Susana Balbo’s latest releases. Wine critic Patricio Tapia ranked two of the winery’s wines at the top of two of his rankings: Susana Balbo Rosé 2020 was “The best Descorchados Rosé” and Nosotros Single Vineyard Nómade Malbec 2017 was “The best from Agrelo”. In addition, the Signature range’s novelty wine won the “Revelation” award: Susana Babo Signature Limited Edition Torrontés Naranjo 2019, the first orange wine by Susana Balbo.
Nosotros Single Vineyard Nómade, Susana Balbo’s ultra premium wine, returned to its origins, in Agrelo, after seven years. The 2017 harvest was warm and dry and allowed for Malbec grapes of excellent quality and character that were then delicately vinified and turned into an unparalleled wine. Nosotros Single Vineyard Nómade Malbec 2017 was awarded 96 points. Moreover, the limited editions also stood out: the blends Nosotros Francis 2017 and Nosotros Sofita 2017 obtained 96 points each and were ranked among “the best from El Peral” and “the best from Los Chacayes” respectively, as well as “the best red blends”.
Susana’s favorite varietal also made an impression: Susana Balbo Signature Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 obtained 96 points and was ranked as one of “the best Cabernet Sauvignons”. The rest of her red wines were not left behind at all: Susana Balbo Signature Brioso Blend 2018 obtained 95 points and was ranked as one of “the best wines from Agrelo” and Susana Balbo Signature Malbec obtained 95 and 94 points for the 2017 and 2018 vintages respectively.
The white and rosé wines made by “Queen of Torrontés” were awarded excellent scores as well, including the latest innovation: Susana Balbo Signature Limited Edition Torrontés Naranjo 2019, an orange Torrontés, obtained 94 points along with the “Revelation” award and ranked as one of “the best orange wines” and one of “the best Torrontés”. The acclaimed Susana Balbo Signature Rosé 2020 and White Blend 2020 scored 95 points each, and the amazing Susana Balbo Signature Barrel Fermented Torrontés 2020 and Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2020 scored 94 points each.
BenMarco wines, produced under the vision of viticulturist Edgardo del Pópolo, obtained great scores as well. A wine that stood out was the new wine in the exploration line: BenMarco Sin Límites Organic Malbec 2019 got 96 points and ranked among “the best wines from Los Chacayes”. Both BenMarco Cabernet Franc 2019 and BenMarco Sin Límites Pedernal 2019 received 95 points.
