Decanter Magazine: Exclusive interview with Susana Balbo and excellent scores for her wines

A very interesting article about Susana Balbo has been published in the most recent edition, focused on South America, of the renowned UK magazine. Moreover, four wines from her winery obtained excellent scores.

Mendoza, September 2020. – The wine and spirits magazine Decanter, with great influence in Europe, has published an interview to Susana Balbo by the British journalist Sorrel Moseley-Williams. The article appears in the most recent issue, focused on South America.

Moseley-Williams states: “The pioneering winemaker has forged an outstanding career in Argentina, helping to put its wines onto an international stage and even extending her influence into politics and female empowerment.”

In the four-page article, the journalist tells Susana's personal and professional life stories, from her beginnings as a winemaker in Salta –where she created a new destiny for Torrontés and where she started her family–, her returning to Mendoza, the first steps towards her own project –now turned into a successful winery–, her children joining her company's team, and her role in Argentina's national politics. In addition, she highlighted Balbo's influence at a global stage, reflected in the growth of Argentine wine exports during his presidencies at Wines of Argentina, the success of Malbec World Day, also instituted in her role as president of WOFA, and her contributions as Chair of the W20.

Decanter magazine has highlighted not only the winemaker's story and career, but also the quality of her wines. In this regard, the article called “Regional profile: Luján de Cuyo”, the award-winning wine journalist Amanda Barnes awarded 95 points to the 2018 Susana Balbo Signature Brioso, and state that this wine “shows the great potential of Agrelo blends”.

 

 

 

In Alejandro Iglesias's article named “South American Cabernet Franc: Expert’s choice”, the Argentine journalist rated 2018 de BenMarco Cabernet Franc 94 points and described it as “fresh and balanced with a chalky minerality”.

 

 

 

The Brazilian Master of Wine Dirceu Vianna Junior, awarded 91 points to the 2019 Susana Balbo Signature Barrel-Fermented Torrontés and 92 points to the 2019 Susana Balbo Signature White Blend, which he included in the list of the best white wines in South America, also published in the print issue.
